Gmail recently put in place certain measures that its users must perform before accessing their email via third party email clients. What does this mean for Distributed Source users? If you’d like to integrate your Gmail account in order to send emails from Distributed Source via your Gmail account, you’d have to do one of the two:
1. Setup 2-Step Verification for your Gmail account and generate an App Password for Distributed Source that can be used as password while setting up the Gmail SMTP integration.
2. Simply provide access to less secure apps and use your Gmail account password in Distributed Source while setting up the Gmail SMTP integration.
We recommend the first option. If you’re not sure how to generate an App Password, here are instructions to do so.
Generating an App Password
Login into your Gmail account and open this page: https://myaccount.google.com/security
Under the section “Signing in to Google“, check to make sure 2-Step Verification is turned on. If not, please follow instructions on this page: https://www.google.com/landing/2step/

In the ‘Google Account Security’ page opened as mentioned above, under ‘Signing in to Google’, click on ‘App Passwords’.

Enter your account password if it prompts you.
In the new ‘App Passwords’ page, click the ’Select App’ dropdown and click on ‘Other (Custom name)’ and enter ‘Distributed Source’. Click on the ‘Generate’ button next to it.

In the new popup titled ‘Generated app password’ shown on the screen, click on the generated password highlighted in yellow color and copy it. Then, click on Done.

Using the App Password to setup Gmail SMTP integration in Distributed Source
Open Distributed Source in a new tab and log in to your account.
Open this URL to visit the ‘Emails’ section of the Settings page: https://my.distributedsource.com/crm#settings/emails
Click on ‘Email Integration’ among the 3 tabs in the page opened.
Hover over the Gmail box and click on ‘SMTP’.
Open the ‘Email Integration’ tab, hover over the Gmail section and click on ‘SMTP’
Enter your Gmail login address under ‘Username’ and paste the generated App Password under ‘Password’. Click on ‘Next’.

Select one or multiple email addresses that belong to the Gmail account you generated the password for (usually just your Gmail login address). Click on ‘Create’.

That’s it! You can now send emails from Distributed Source that go via Gmail. These emails will show up in the ‘Sent’ section of your Gmail account and will also improve deliverability of emails to your leads or clients.
Note: After you’ve completed this, if you’ve setup Inbound Email integration for the same address, you will automatically get an added advantage. When you get a notification for an inbound email that is forwarded to Distributed Source and you click on it, Distributed Source will automatically mark the email as ‘read’ in your Gmail inbox. This will help you save time by making sure that you don’t go through emails in Gmail that you’ve already seen Distributed Source.
